A large portion of adults\u2014especially on the legs and face\u2014experience them to varying degrees. Although the exact mechanism behind their appearance is not fully clarified, two main factors are most often considered:<\/p>\n<p>Increased intravascular pressure (venous hypertension). The valves in the leg veins, which return blood to the heart, wear out over time or stop working optimally. Blood then flows backward (reflux), increasing venous pressure. This elevated pressure dilates small vessels near the skin\u2019s surface, making them visible.<\/p>\n<p>Structural weakness of the vessel wall. In some people, genetic predisposition leads to a congenitally weaker vein wall. With VDU we assess:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Valve function in axial (truncal) veins (e.g., great saphenous vein\u2014GSV)<\/li>\n<li>Presence and severity of reflux (backflow)<\/li>\n<li>Locations of hidden \u201cfeeder\u201d veins supplying the surface network<\/li>\n<li>Any deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or obstruction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our priority is not just to erase the visible spider vein but to correct the hemodynamic cause that produced it.<\/p>\n<h2>How does laser eliminate capillaries\u2014what\u2019s the scientific basis?<\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s no \u201cmagic\u201d in laser therapy\u2014it\u2019s physics, specifically the theory of selective photothermolysis.<\/p>\n<p>In simple terms: the chosen laser energy targets a specific chromophore inside the vessel, heats and closes the vessel while sparing nearby tissue.<\/p>\n<p>Three key components of laser treatment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Target chromophore: blood hemoglobin<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Laser light is absorbed by hemoglobin in red blood cells. The absorbed energy turns into heat, coagulating the vessel wall, narrowing it, and leading to durable closure.<\/p>\n<p>The target chromophore appears in two forms:<\/p>\n<p>Oxyhemoglobin \u2014 in oxygenated, red blood (e.g., facial vessels).<\/p>\n<p>Deoxyhemoglobin \u2014 in darker\/more bluish venous blood (e.g., leg veins).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Wavelength: penetration depth<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wavelength determines how deeply light penetrates the skin and which hemoglobin form absorbs it best.<\/p>\n<p>Short wavelengths (e.g., 532 nm): very superficial penetration; strongly absorbed by oxyhemoglobin. Ideal for thin, red facial vessels.<\/p>\n<p>Long wavelengths (e.g., Nd:YAG 1064 nm): penetrate several millimeters; effectively absorbed by deoxyhemoglobin. Essential for deeper, bluish leg vessels.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pulse duration: locking heat into the vessel<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This is the time the laser energy is delivered. It must be long enough to close the vessel before heat diffuses into surrounding tissue. This depends on thermal relaxation time (TRT).
