Sclerotherapy & Foam Treatment

Sclerotherapy is a method used to treat varicose veins. In this procedure, a special sclerosing drug is injected into the vein. This drug causes irritation in the vein wall, causing the veins to close and disappear over time.

How Is The Procedure?

Local anesthesia may be applied to the relevant area. General inhalational or spinal anesthesia is not necessary.

The sclerosing medication is injected directly into the varicose vein using a thin needle. During the procedure, the blood flow in the vein is blocked and the medication is distributed evenly across the vein wall.

Who Should Perform This Procedure?

Sclerotherapy is usually performed by phlebologists and some vascular surgeons. It is important that the specialist is experienced and trained in sclerotherapy.

What Should Be Done After The Procedure?

  • Compression Stockings: It is generally recommended to wear compression stockings after treatment. These stockings support the healing of the veins and regulate blood flow. In some cases, an elastic bandage may be applied.
  • Exercise: • It may be helpful to increase blood circulation by taking walks.
  • Elevate the Legs: After the procedure, while resting after the walks, elevating the legs may help reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • Avoiding Prolonged Standing and Hot Environments: Hot environments should be avoided and standing still for long periods of time should be avoided.

Foam Treatment (Foam Sclerotherapy)

Foam treatment is an improved version of sclerotherapy. In this method, the sclerosing drug is mixed with gas and turned into foam. The foam spreads over a wider area in the vein and effectively treats the veins.

How Is The Procedure?

The sclerosing medication is foamed with carbon dioxide or air and injected into the vein. The foam makes better contact with the vein wall and covers a larger area. This increases the effectiveness of the treatment.

Both treatment methods can provide effective results, but which method is applied depends on the size and location of the varicose veins and the patient's general health. It is important to follow your doctor's recommendations during the treatment process and aftercare.

In our clinic, only patients who are suitable for this treatment are treated at the right time and in the right order.

This treatment method cannot be applied directly in severe disorders of deep and main veins. First, the damaged veins should be repaired and then this treatment should be applied. Here, we would like to emphasize once again the importance of detailed color doppler ultrasound examination.
